jaw dropping Wedding day Makeup

OK for you that had someone come in a do your make up the day of your wedding how much did u end up paying. The place I'm having my hair done also does make up but I'm not big on his kind of make up. I went into the place I buy my makeup today and talk with the lady. She said she charges people that are not her customers $400 to $500. Since I have been a regular customer of hers for 5+ years she would work up a price and send it to me. She did say it would be about $250. This includes my self and 3 other people. She would come where every I needed her to and then she would stay at the wedding to do touch ups. She is really good and does great work but I never dreamed it would coast me this much to have someone do my makeup.

My first thought was "ouch"!! But there are 4 of you and she will be available for touch ups and usually charges double what she is charging you....

Go for it. You get what you pay for! And you'll have these photos FOREVER!!

Does that price include a "test run"? At least for you.

Yea she will do a test run on me only. She has done my make up b-4 but it was in her shop and she didn't charge me. Her shop is a hour away so she would have to come to us.

Mine was $200 for just me. This did include a test run which was in her shop, and she came to me on the wedding day.

When DD#1 was married, (in 2001) I paid $250 for her and three bridesmaids for make-up and hair; later that year, DSD#2 cost $500 for her hair/makeup and 4 bridesmaids hair (DSD#1 was annoyed that *her* makeup wasn't also done, and we had been told that it would include makeup for all.) These were done in the salon.

For DSD#1, hair and makeup were done in the hotel for bride, MOB, me and hair for four bridesmaids. It costs us $250.

When I was married, my stylist did my hair and make-up for free. I intended to pay and had a check made out ($200), but she tore it up and said it was her wedding gift to me.

IMO that's INSANE!! How hard is it to slap on some make-up? Bare Minerals--you can't go wrong!

I just never dreamed it would be that. Really thinking about doing my own. Hair for Me and 2 BM and My FG is only $100. I'm going to check and see what Steve would charge me to do it at the hair salon but use my make up. We are good friends so we will see...

I got a really good deal thanks to MOH. Her mom is a makeup artist so she is doing all of our makeup for free. SO im pretty lucky. I have had MOH mom do my makeup for all four years of prom, so I know I will look pretty.

I had a pretty good deal too. I never wear make-up at all, so I honestly didn't care. My sister (who wears it ALL the time) did mine. She got married less than a year before me and went in for a pro consult & bought lots of nice fancy stuff. She still had some left over and used it on me. She touched me up throughout the day and I think i looked pretty good! Except I had a cold and my nose was constantly running and was bright red! lol

hair my sister's sister in law did for me. She's a manager of a ficcocello's and came to the church (she's from the same hometown as I am) and wouldn't take any $ from me. Hair looked awesome!

That's a lot of money, I guess you just have to decide what your priorities are and go from there. Maybe you can cut something else out or down in a few other areas to afford the hair/make-up for everyone. I'm sure you'll look gorgeous no matter what you do! Good luck!

I have an aunt who'll do my hair & makeup for me, she used to be a cosmotologist and has a knack. I'd prefer to keep BM hair very very simple, since my BM's all have fairly short hair...maybe just some pretty matching clips or whatever.

My hair is so hard to fix I wouldn't feel right doing it my self. I know it would turn out so bad. Some days I can fix it just like my hair dresser does. Then I have my days I can't get it to do any thing. For my make up I can do it my self but I was thinking of the other ladies. One does great on her make up but to be honest my best friend don't pick the right colors for her self and she knows it. I know thats bad of me to say it and I wouldn't say it unless she knows it her self. I'm just going to check with my hair dresser and see what price he can give me if we use my make up for my self...

I think I'm going to have a girl I work with do mine, and if the others want theirs done too I'm sure she would. She did her own (she was married in Jamaica) and it looked really nice. As for hair, someone else is definitely doing mine. I don't think you can tell in my avatar pic, but it's about bra strap length, and will be longer by June. It's a pain to get it to do anything, so I'll let someone else do it. :-D As a matter of fact, my sister called me the other day and offered to call around to different places to see what kind of prices we could get for the whole bridal party. Isn't that nice?
Another question for you guys...would you reccomend going to a salon, or having someone come to where you are to get your hair done?

I'm going to the salon to have mine done but he will be coming to the wedding to do touch up and make sure every thing looks right but he is a family friend. He grew up with my 2 older sisters. The salon is only a few blocks from the church so it will be better for him to do all the work at his place...

Oh man, I'm not sure I remember now... (my Mom offered to pay.)

I think it was $300 for hair and makeup for myself and five of the girls and she came to us. Some of the girls had their hair done but not makeup and v/v.

LJ Could you buy the make-up for your BMs? Maybe you could pick an eye shadow that would tone in with the dresses, or choose something neutral and say you'd like them all to have their make-up match? That would side step your BF choosing any odd combination... I think it's reasonable to ask them all to wear the same shades of eye shadow and lipstick on the day... I'll definately be doing my own and I'll probably do my BM and 2 FGirls too... though I'll be going to the salon to have my hair done. I don't think I'd be comfortable letting anyone else do my make-up for such an important day, I've been doing my own make-up nearly every day for longer than I'd care to admit to though and I get a lot of compliments on it so I'm not too worried about it...

ETA: I'm going to try what Bebe recomended... false eyelashes! I've ordered some online but I've never worn them before. I want quite a sultry look for my eyes without wearing stacks of mascara... I'll post the results when I've tried it out!

If u can do the false eyelashes more power to you. lol I have tried it and they get put every where but where they are post to. My Best friends wedding she had them put on and when she cried and wiped her eyes they came half way off. I really like the way eye lashes look with my mascara. I believe I'll stay with that. Show pictures when u try the false eyelashes out...

I'm sorry but that's a video for "funny weddings" or something.

It was really funny to us she was mad. Still to this day we tell her she needs to send it in to a TV show and make money...

jaw dropping

I can't believe how much that is! I guess I haven't started researching hair/makeup for the wedding yet. Most of my bridesmaids don't wear a lot of makeup so I don't know if they'll get makeup done, and I just want something simple with their hair. Mine will probably be more expensive.

I don't think your hair sounds expensive LJ, it normally costs £30 for me to have mine trimmed so they'l probably charge somewhere around that for my wedding hair do... so that's probably about $50 just for mine, That's only a tiny local salon it's not like I'm driving into some fancy salon in the city to have it done! Then there's the BM, 2FGs, 1MOB, 1MOG, oh I'm gonna be POOR by time this wedding is over

ETA: Just re-read the stuff before... It's reasonably priced because it's your friend's salon! Am I right?

Yeah that is a hell of a lot of money just to ahve someone else do your make up!
I vote for you doing your own and getting Steve to do the BMs with your choice of makeup shades etc.

Default makeup

that's a pretty good price for so many people...but it's always good to go find a professional to do your makeup because it really makes a difference when it is from a professional makeup artist...they are trained and are knowledgable about what products to use and what not to use on each individual...
they know the how lighting and colours work together and esp if you're taking photos...makeup will affect the whole picture and these pictures are memories of your wedding day
the time of day matters too when you apply the makeup
I recommend that brides stay away from blue tones...this will turn white in photographs or even alter the whole makeup
For foundations, if you have oily skin, use a water based foundation (which doesn't require a lot of touch ups)...if you are going to touch out throughout the night, you could use a oil based and touch up with powder throughout the night...but that will add more products onto your skin and provide a very heavy look...the best way is to find oil blotting papers (The Body Shop..drug stores...) - it absorbs the excess oil throughout the day and will not clog your pores and it will be better than using powder all night
Make sure to stay away from frosts, glitters, shimmery, and odd shades. You want your wedding makeup to look more classy and "pretty"...those types of makeup are more for regular evening looks or fashion looks. Blend your foundation well below the jaw line, drawing it down to the neck and blend evenly with the hairline....you don't want a circle with a dark ring in photos...
Try to use more pinks, peaches, purples..for eyeshadow colours...if you really don't like those colours...green is ok...but try to stay with pinks & peaches...and make sure you use waterproof mascara! As half of the brides will cry that day and their makeup will run! Anyway...I should keep this short...I can ramble on and on and on...but you guys might be bored listening to this or maybe you already know that....but I just want to give you some tips from personal experience
