Default registering practically

I mentioned in a previous thread under "Guests and Registries" that my attempt at registering for practical things at Home Depot for things like tools, outdoor, camping, etc. did not go well. No one at the bridal shower got us any of these things. Did any of you try this? Was it successful?

We didn't register for anything like that, so I don't know how successful a "home improvement" registry is. What I can say, though, is that just because no one bought from it for the bridal shower doesn't mean that no one will buy from it for the wedding.

Thumbs up i did

I did for a friend of mine.. The husband thought it was so cool to get the home depot gift card so I would do it again in a heartbeat...plus buying things off the wedding registry I mean what if they get 3 of the same thing they will have to return it anyway... just my opinion

MOst our gifts from the registry came at the wedding just to let ya know. But my Mother in Law threw a reciepe party. . .bring a reciepe and the dry goods to make it! Some people brought bakewear, spatulas, mixing bowls ect. .. to help make those things. . it was a neat idea.

N e ways. . .with this day and age i bet you could definaly get away with registering at a home depot or something. . .maybe gift cards from there or something. I would have family memebers spread word of mouth that you two would be interested in it. . .so people would know.

we registered at Sears (well DH did actually)....a lot of his single friends bought gifts from there because they felt "manly" buying tools as a wedding gift (of course most of them have since borrowed those tools from us... )

I've never tried it, but we still got a lot of gift cards for Home Depot (more than any other place actually). People knew that we had just bought our first house, and seemed more than happy to buy us cards from Home Depot. We didn't register there though...people just did it on their own.

Interesting that more gifts came at the wedding. I try to be an involved groom, but this whole gift thing is mysterious. Only our shower invitations had any registry info. So if wedding guests discover where we're registered, it must be word of mouth. I'll keep that in mind..

Your wedding invitations should not have registery or gift information in them at all - that's totally spread by word of mouth... So you're okay in that capacity.

We didn't register for tools or anything (actually, neither DH nor I is particularly "handy"...fortunately we have a GREAT handyman/long-time friend of the family). But a good friend of mine DID give us a household fix-it book and a simple toolkit...which we've actually used. The friend was female, and she gave it to me at the bridal shower (which produced mostly kitcheny things...but was all women).

We registered for some gaming items, however, on Amazon. We did receive those. And we got a Home Depot gift card.
