I love this new year
Although we’ve been married for over 5 months now, many of those 5 months felt still transitional. I went to work, DH went to work. He did homework at night; I did schoolwork. On the weekends, we watched football and play games. Every week and weekend brought something new; we took each week as it came.
Starting this new year, we’ve really worked on establishing a routine together. We eat dinner together and work out together. Sure, there are still times when we have work to do at home, but I feel much more settled in our life and our routine. We’ve established a budget that we are sticking to, and making lots of exciting house and travel plans for this year. And I think a big part of the settling feeling comes from me becoming more and more comfortable with my job, now halfway through the school year.
I’m hoping for us, as a couple this year, that we can become much less indulgent of ourselves. During our relationship before we got married, we spent money rather freely and didn’t plan much for the future. Now that we are married, own a house, and are both in stable jobs making good incomes, we are planning for the future and I love it. Sure, I loved spending money whenever I wanted on whatever I wanted, but now I feel much more secure that we’ll get our house fixed up and save money for the future, exactly because we are being much less indulgent. And it is a good feeling.
