Handpainting a pair of ho-drum sandals may look difficult but it's quite the opposite. With a bit of creativity and a few tools, you can transform a pair of Dr. Scholl's sandals into walking works of art! They make unique and creative gifts for your bridesmaids and best gal pals!

Materials Needed:
Sandpaper
3mm blue painter's tape
1" sponge brush
Acrylic paint in colors of your choice
Glossy sheer varnish
White scratch paper (optional)
Instructions:
1. Use the sandpaper to rub off the Dr. Scholl's logo from the sandal.
2. Wrap the painter's tape along the edge of the rubber sole to protect it from being painted.
3. Wrap painter's tape or white scratch paper around the leather straps to protect it from paint.
4. Using the sponge brush, apply 3 coats of acrylic paint all over the wood surface. Let the paint dry for 20 minutes between each coat. Dry overnight if you're planning to paint stripes. Otherwise, let dry for a few hours before continuing to embellish.
5. To paint stripes, begin at the heel and apply the strips of painter's tape across sandal and press firm along the edge of the sandal.
6. Using the sponge brush, paint the exposed parts of the sandal in the colors of your choosing.
7. Carefully remove the painter's tape.
8. Using the sponge brush, apply 3 coats of the varnish over the entire painted sandal. Dry for 4 to 6 hours.
9. Carefully remove tape from rubber sole edge of sandal and leather strap.
