Floral Jewelry
Today’s floral designers are not just making masterful bouquets, centerpieces, corsages and boutonnieres. They’re also making floral jewelry as fashionable brides want to extend the natural beauty of blooms to their entire wedding day look. So with expert care and precision, designers are hand-wiring individual flowers or lengths of flowers together, attaching them to lengths of pretty white or colored silk cord, adding charms, crystals or gemstones, and creating custom jewelry pieces that flower-loving brides adore as unique accents to their gowns.
And it’s not just the brides who want floral jewelry. The moms, grandmothers, godmothers, bridesmaids, maids and matrons of honor, junior bridesmaids, flowergirls, and ceremony readers or music performers are also often the recipients of floral jewelry. These fresh, new styles are taking the place of clunky, oversized, and prom-like corsages, allowing all the women of the wedding day to show off a piece of floral jewelry made just for them.
Here are the categories that can be made into floral jewelry.
• Bracelets – A single fresh flower tied to a ribbon, or a circlet of smaller flowers worn at the wrist.
• Chokers – Tightly strung fresh flowers attach across the throat as an elegant accent to the perfect neckline. Strapless dresses may be perfect for this. Keep in mind that floral chokers are more stylish than longer floral necklaces which can look more like leis (unless that’s the look you want for your island wedding.)
• Pendants -- A tiny, perfect flower hangs at the end of a silver chain, with gemstones or crystals interspersed on the chain.
• Lariat – This hot new necklace style that’s tops in fashion (think the Nicole Kidman epic Chanel commercial with that sparkling lariat showcasing a pendant on her porcelain back). Now, the open backs of sexier dresses invite a bit of sparkle against the back or between the shoulder blades. A great chain or silk cord can dangle the perfect flower as a surprise view as you walk down the aisle.
• Anklet – A circle of tiny flowers can adorn your ankle, as an unexpected accent and a fresh way to show off your fabulous shoes. Brides who go barefoot on the beach love this look, too.
• Pinned in your hair. Rather than jeweled hairpins or clips, pin tiny fresh flowers at stylish intervals in your loose, flowing hair or in an updo. A perfect daisy or lily behind your ear may be all the adornment you need.
